The founder of Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Full name was Shivaji Bhosale.

He was born on 19th Feb 1930, in Shivneri fort. Shahaji was his father’s name and Jijabai was his mother’s name.

His entire childhood was spent under the guidance of Jijabai. She used to tell him stories from Ramayana and Mahabharata.

He helps to formed the character of Shivaji Raje. Shivaji started taking education of weapons as well as religious text in his childhood.

Shivaji Maharaj done 8 marriages in his life and he had a total of 2 sons and 6 daughters.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was proficient and expert in the art of guerrilla fight. The coronation of Shivaji Maharaj took place at Raigad in 1674. He become “Chhatrapati” as soon as he was coronated.

Mughal was the biggest enemy of Shivaji Maharaj. He spent his entire life fighting with the Mughals. At the age of only 15, he captured three forts namely Torna Fort, Chakan Fort and Kondhana fort.

He slowly expanded his kingdom capturing fort after fort and it soon spread across Western and Central India.

The heroic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj breathed his last, after suffering from illness, inside the raigad fort an the 3rd of April 1680.
