CBSE Young India Culinary Championship (YICC) 2026-27: Registration, Eligibility, Dates & Guidelines
In alignment with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020 and the Skill India Mission, CBSE is organizing the Young India Culinary Championship 2026-27 for students of Classes VI to XII with the aim of equipping learners with essential hospitality and culinary competencies along with fostering creativity and teamwork. This initiative will also encourage entrepreneurship and inspire the next generation of professionals in the tourism and hospitality industry.
CBSE Launches Young India Culinary Championship (YICC) 2026-27 for Classes VI to XII
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the Young India Culinary Championship (YICC) 2026-27, a national-level cooking competition for students of Classes VI to XII. The initiative aims to promote practical culinary skills, healthy eating habits, creativity, teamwork, and career awareness in the hospitality and tourism sector in line with NEP 2020 and the Skill India Mission.
Who Can Participate?
- Regular students of CBSE-affiliated schools
- Classes VI-VIII: Non-Fire Cooking
- Classes IX-XII: Fire Cooking
Competition Categories
Category I (Classes VI-VIII)
- Non-fire cooking only
- Prepare dishes such as:
- Salad
- Sandwich
- Canapé
Category II (Classes IX-XII)
- Fire cooking allowed
- Prepare a vegetarian main course from:
- Indian Cuisine
- Asian Cuisine
- Modern Western Cuisine
Note: Use of non-vegetarian ingredients is strictly prohibited.
Competition Levels
1. School Level
- Conducted by individual CBSE schools.
- Students compete individually.
- Top two winners from each category form a team for the Regional Level.
2. Regional Level
Held at four regional centres:
- Delhi
- Mumbai
- Kolkata
- Chennai
Students compete in teams of two and are judged by professional chefs and industry experts.
3. National Finale
- Venue: Chandigarh
- Winning regional teams compete for the national title.
Important Dates
- School Registration Deadline: 1 August 2026
- Last Date to Conduct School-Level Competition: 15 August 2026
- Regional Competitions: September–October 2026
- National Finale: November–December 2026
Participation Fee
No registration or participation fee is charged at any stage of the competition.

Participants will be judged on:
- Taste, flavour and aroma
- Texture and presentation
- Food hygiene and safety
- Nutritional value
- Creativity
- Workplace organisation and waste management
