National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020) focuses on holistic development of the students and it is accepted by all that schools are not just about academics, but also about personal growth and development. Significant emotional and psychological changes are faced by the students during their school years, guidance and counselling services of the school can support the students to deal effectively with these changes. Guidance and counselling services in schools are aimed at helping students with personal, social, and academic issues. These services are provided by trained professionals in collaboration with the teachers. Early identification of the problem behavior is possible with the help of teachers, they can play a key role in resolving students’ issues and concerns and can respond to students’ psychological, emotional, and developmental issues.
In view of above, the Board announces ‘Guidance and Counselling’ as a training theme of session 2023-24. Following programmes shall be conducted for the schools during the academic session 2023-2024 on Guidance and Counselling:
A survey on Guidance and Counselling practices shall be conducted by the Training Unit of the Board during 2023-2024. Link for this School Survey shall be shared through CBSE Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in due course of time.
Free online sessions related to following sub-themes of Guidance and Counselling shall be organized by all the CoEs during 2023-2024. Online registration for the sessions shall be done through CBSE training portal. (URL: https://cbseit.in/cbse/training/)
The tentative programme-schedule of these online sessions is as under:
Offline Capacity Building Programme on Career Guidance shall be conducted by the CoEs.
A National Conference on Guidance and Counselling shall be organized in October-2023. Detailed information of this National Conference shall be notified at CBSE website separately.
School Counsellor/ Wellness Teachers are encouraged to maintain records of their observations, psychological assessment reports and counselling sessions on academic and emotional issues of students. The best practices of schools on guidance and counselling may be shared with respective CoEs and also presented in proposed National Conference on Guidance & Counselling.
All the principals of CBSE affiliated schools are requested to inform the teachers and encourage them to participate in online/offline trainings on guidance and counselling. The trained School Counsellor/ Wellness Teacher should conduct guidance and counselling activities throughout the year (2023-2024) and also share their achievements and experiences with the CoEs of the Board.
