World Animal Day, sometimes referred to as world Animal Welfare Day or World Animal Protection Day is an annual event on the 4th of October, celebrating animal rights and welfare across the globe. It’s an important day and has been marked since 1925, with a growing international community striving to end the needless suffering of all animals.
World Animal Welfare Day is commemorated on October 4 every year. October 4 is also the Fest Day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of animals. This day highlights the relationship between humankind and animal kingdom.

This day was established in 1931 at a convention of ecologists to Florence, Italy with the purpose to highlight the plight of endangered species. This day basically aims of standardizing the animal welfare standards and support worldwide. The day promotes involvement of individuals, groups and organizations that care for and love animals. That is why, the day is also known as “Animal Lovers Day”.
Various activities are performed during the day, such as launching of animal welfare campaigns, opening of rescue shelters for the animals, and organization of fund raising events. Also schools and colleges prepare visual displays with wildlife information. Even many organizations volunteer to sponsor the construction of shelter to the animals. In a nutshell, the day is dedicated to animals and animal lovers.
