National Safe Motherhood Day (NSMD) is observed on 11 April Every Year,
The Day is observed to create awareness about Maternity facilities, locating women, and also for proper health care given to women.
In our Country, there are women who died while giving birth and also don’t get nutrition, proper care during the course of pregnancy and after that also.
This day also focuses on reducing anemia among women, institutional delivery, better pre and postnatal health care etc. which are necessary for mothers.
The day also raises awareness for the prevention of child marriage because we can say child marriage may be an indirect cause of maternal deaths.
It is the right for every women to take good quality nutrition proper health care services during and after pregnancy and childbirth.
Approx. 900 women die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. In women maternal mortality is higher basically living in rural areas and among poorer communities.
Maternal mortality worldwide dropped by about 45% in between 1990 and 2015.
