Best Speech on National Statistics Day (India) – 29 June 2026
Good Morning Respected Principal, Teachers, and Dear Friends,
Today, I am here to speak about National Statistics Day, which is observed every year on 29th June in India. This day is celebrated to honor the birth anniversary of the renowned Indian statistician Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, who made remarkable contributions to the field of statistics and economic planning in India.
Statistics is the science of collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data. It helps us understand facts and make informed decisions. We use statistics in almost every aspect of life, such as education, healthcare, sports, business, weather forecasting, and government planning.
Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis developed the famous Mahalanobis Distance and played a key role in establishing the Indian Statistical Institute. His work helped India plan its development programs more effectively after independence.
National Statistics Day reminds us of the importance of accurate data in making policies and solving problems. For example, governments use statistical data to understand population growth, employment rates, literacy levels, and public health conditions. This information helps in creating better plans for the welfare of citizens.
As students, we also use statistics in our daily lives. Whether it is calculating marks, analyzing sports performance, conducting surveys, or creating charts and graphs, statistics helps us understand information clearly and logically.
The theme of National Statistics Day changes from year to year, focusing on different aspects of data and development. The day encourages people to appreciate the role of statistics in nation-building and evidence-based decision-making.
Dear friends, in today’s digital world, data is often called the “new oil.” Therefore, learning how to collect, analyze, and interpret data is an important skill for the future. Statistics not only improves our mathematical thinking but also helps us make better decisions based on facts rather than assumptions.
On this National Statistics Day, let us recognize the valuable contributions of statisticians and understand the importance of data in shaping a stronger and more prosperous India.
Thank you and have a wonderful day!
Jai Hind!
