Respected Principal, Teachers and My Dear Friends, Good Morning to All

In India, there are seven days declared as Martyrs’ Day. They are named in honor of those who are recognized as martyrs for the Nation.

Martyr’s Day is celebrated across the country on January 30 to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary. Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead by Nathuram Godse during his evening prayers in the Birla House on January 30, 1948.

The Incident shocked the entire world. Later Godse got arrested and was sentenced to death. He alleged that Gandhi was responsible for the partition of the country.

Godse shot Mahatma Gandhi thrice in the chest and abdomen. It is said that the last words Gandhi uttered were “Hey Ram”.

“Have I that non-violence of the brave in me? My death alone will show that. If someone killed me and i died with prayer for the assassion on my lips, and God’s remembrance and consciousness of his living presence in the sanctuary of my heart, then alone would I be said to have had the non violence of the brave,” Gandhi had said a few days before he was killed.

Mahatma Gandhi was one of the leading figures of the Indian Independence movement. “Satya”, or Truth and “Ahinsa” or Non Violence were his two most important guiding principles.

On 30th Jan, the president, the vice president, the prime minister and the three service chiefs – Army, Air force & Navy, lay wreaths made of multi coloured flowers at his Samadhi at Raj Ghat in Delhi at 11 am, a two – minutes silence in memory of Indian martyrs is observed throughout the country. This year the Home Ministry has directed all states & union territories to ensure that the day is observed with due solemnity.

People and societies take their own initiatives to observe the Martyrs’ Day, which may include forming a human chain, observing day – long fasts, and lighting candles.

On Martyrs’ Day, we gratefully remember Mahatma Gandhi and the countless freedom fighters who sacrificed their all for our Independence. Your ideals continue to motivate millions.
