Today, I would like to speak on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed every year on 26th June across the world.
This day reminds us of the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of creating a healthy, safe, and drug-free society. Drug addiction is one of the biggest challenges facing young people today. It not only harms physical and mental health but also affects families, friendships, education, and future careers.
Many people begin using drugs due to curiosity, peer pressure, stress, or a desire to fit in. However, what may start as an experiment can quickly become a dangerous addiction. Drug abuse can lead to serious health problems, loss of confidence, poor academic performance, and even criminal activities.
As students, we must understand that real strength lies in making the right choices. We should stay away from harmful substances, choose good friends, and engage in positive activities such as sports, reading, music, and community service. If we ever feel stressed or pressured, we should seek guidance from our parents, teachers, or trusted adults rather than turning to harmful habits.
