Respected Guest of honor, Principal Sir, Teachers and My Dear Friends Good Morning to All.
Today I am going to speak about ‘Independence’. Independence means the state of being free and not controlled by another person or country.
This year marks the 79th Anniversary of the country’s Independence. As in 1947 India achieved freedom from British Rule. British ruled India from year 1858 to 1947, that is for around 89 years. Before the British came, there was no idea of an Indian Nationality and India was divided by many Kings and Indians were leaving peacefully.
“One Nation, One Rule” was not there. Things changed after the British came. The idea of democracy, governance, law and justice came when British ruled over India. India would have never been united if British didn’t ruled us. It means British has some good impact on India. Like, British introduce railway infrastructure, air ways, English education, armed forces, civil services etc.
They have brought our favorite game cricket in India. They were one who imported our favorite Tea from China. They have abolished ‘Thugs’ and have eradicated the custom of ‘Sati’ that is burning of widow on the husband’s funeral.
After all these things question arises Then why Indians were not happy at that time ? Because, along with all these development, British rule was exploiting our economy and our natural resources. They were looting India. They have taken much gold and one of the most valuable diamonds Kohinoor from India. Which is now present in England.
But one of the most important thing they were exploiting was our freedom. Indians were working as slaves and laborers. People of India were not having any human rights. They were being treated very badly.
In that stressed condition, some people sacrificed their lives in the war of independence. We call them freedom fighters. The amount of pain hardships, and opposite they have endured cannot be put into words. They are pillars behind the freedom movement. They made people aware of their rights and their power.
However, we see now a days people of India are fighting with each other and living in fear from each other. Then tell me, what is the use of this freedom which we got from struggle and sacrifice of freedom fighters ? We must come together without any hate and live up to the Indian dream of these freedom fighters and work for the betterment of nation.
Only then we will honor their sacrifices and memory. I will end my speech with these words. Thousand lid down their lives so that our country breath this day. never forget their sacrifice.
