The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India in collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, is organizing a Mega Tinkering Day on 12th August 2025. This flagship national event aims to bring together students from both ATL and non-ATL schools in a synchronized, one-hour hands-on innovation activity. The initiative seeks to spark curiosity, creativity, and a spirit of problem-solving among lakhs of students across the country. A guided live session will walk participants through the steps and concepts involved to build the project.
Objectives of the Mega Tinkering Day are:
- Inspire a spirit of innovation and scientific thinking among students
- Collaboratively build a simple yet impactful project using ATL tools
- Be part of India’s largest tinkering movement
Date and Time of the Event: 12th August 2025, 10 AM – 11 AM
Key Instructions for Principals, Teachers/ATL in-charges, Mentors:
- The Teachers/ATL in-charges need to assemble with 30-40 students in their Atal Tinkering Lab or any other large classroom/hall on 12th August before 10 AM.
- It is proposed that the Mentors of Change and volunteers visit schools to support with the tinkering activity, where possible.

Materials needed for building the project are – 9V Battery, Propeller, Glue gun, DC Motors, Hook Wire, Scissors, Cardboard, Plastic Bottles, White Bandage, Double Tape, Soldering Kit, Switch, Insulin Tape and Match Box. These materials will already be present in the ATL lab.
The students should be seated in groups (not exceeding 4) in the working area with all materials needed.
The AIM team shall be conducting a Live ‘Build Together’ Session where we will build the whole project from scratch with the trainer on YouTube. Mentors (if present) may support the teachers/ATL
In-charges.
The teachers are requested to project the Live session, follow the instructions specified by the trainers in the live streaming session, and build the projects with students in groups simultaneously.
Once the project building is complete, a simple 2-day innovation contest will be launched. The ATL in-charge is requested to click vibrant pictures and videos and share them as per the instructions provided.
