Essay on National Science Day – 28 February 2026

National Science Day is celebrated every year on 28 February in India.

We celebrate this day to remember the discovery of the Raman Effect by the great Indian physicist Sir C. V. Raman in 1928. While working on the scattering of light, C. V. Raman discovered that when light passes through a transparent substance, a small part of it changes its wavelength and direction. This discovery helped scientists understand the molecular structure of matter.

For this important discovery, Sir C. V. Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. He was the first Asian to receive a Nobel Prize in any branch of science. To honor this achievement, the Government of India declared 28 February as National Science Day in 1986, and the first National Science Day was celebrated in 1987.

During the pre-independence period, India had many great scientists such as C. V. Raman, S. N. Bose, J. C. Bose, Meghnad Saha, and others. Their work made the world recognize the importance of science, experiments, and scientific thinking in daily life.

In the post-independence period, leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru strongly supported scientific development. Important organizations such as ISRO, DRDO, CSIR, BARC, and ICMR were established. Because of these institutions, our lives have become easier, more developed, and technologically advanced.

In the present era, science has reached new heights, especially in space exploration. Human space exploration now includes ambitious lunar missions. NASA’s Artemis II mission is preparing to send astronauts on a 10-day journey around the Moon and back to Earth safely, even while facing challenges like radiation, solar storms, and orbital congestion. Satellite technology and space sustainability initiatives are also growing rapidly.

India has also achieved great success with missions like Chandrayaan-3 and the upcoming Gaganyaan mission, which show the country’s progress in science and technology.

National Science Day honours scientific contributions and innovations and inspires young people to pursue STEM fields. Science is used everywhere in our daily life, from small activities to journeys to the stars. It promotes scientific, logical, and critical thinking and helps us understand the mysteries of the universe.

Thus, National Science Day celebrates human curiosity, scientific thinking, and higher achievements, encouraging us to build a better and more knowledgeable future.

Thanks to Beloved Readers.
