History of the Android mobile operating system began with the public release of the Android beta on November 5, 2007. The first commercial version, Android 1.0, was released on September 23, 2008.
Android has become one of the most popular smartphone operating systems in the world and while out of all the smartphone users worldwide, 88 per cent are using Android OS, Google’s operating system has just turned 10. In this decade-long journey, Google’s Android has come a long way from being on the verge of shutting down to becoming one of Google’s biggest projects.
From its inaugural release to today, Android has transformed visually, conceptually and functionally — time and time again. Google’s mobile operating system may have started out scrappy, but holy moly, has it ever evolved.

The Android version 1.5 Cupcake is the first version, which got a name assigned, which is Cupcake. Cupcakes are muffin-like cakes, which mostly has a creamy hood.
Version 1.6 Donut was given the name Donut.
Android-Version 2 Eclair and 2.1 Eclair share the same name, Eclair. Eclairs are longly biscuits overdrawn with chocolate.
