What is Online Course on the Indian Constitution?

As a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, an Online Course on the Indian Constitution has been launched by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Govt. of India on 25th November 2021 on the eve of ‘Constitution.

The online course aims to create awareness about the Indian Constitution and subsequently strengthen the citizens of the country. The online course is offered by the Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice in collaboration with National Academy of Legal Studies & Research (NALSAR) University of Law, Hyderabad.

Introduction Online Course on the Indian Constitution

In this online course, we shall make an effort to understand the history of our constitution, the kinds of debates we had in our Constituent Assembly, the right and wrong choices we made as to the drafting of the constitution, the preamble of the constitution that defines the destination that we want to reach through our constitution, the fundamental right constitution guarantees through the great rights revolution, the relationship between fundamental rights and fundamental duties, the futurist goals of the constitution as incorporated in directive principles and the relationship between fundamental rights and directive principles, powers of union and state executive, powers and the role of our judiciary particularly its role of taking sufferings of people seriously through the Public Interest Litigation, President — Prime Minister relationship, Ordinance making power and amending powers of the Parliament.

You Will Learn

  • To become familiar with the text of the constitution and leading cases.
  • To identify the fundamental policy choices incorporated in the Constitution.
  • To articulate opinions on significant, vital, controversial and current constitutional issues.
  • To examine the historical evolution of doctrines standards, and tests.
  • To understand India’s post-independence constitutional journey.

They will be granted access to 15 conceptual videos that will help the participants of the course to get familiarized with the text of the Constitution and to identify the fundamental policy choices embodied in the Constitution.

In addition, the course offers insight into the historical evolution and the post –independence journey of the making of the Constitution.

On completion of the course, a certificate of participation will be automatically generated. Candidates who want to obtain a certificate of merit or certificate of appreciation will have to go through an online assessment at a token of Rs.100/-.

The certificate is purely optional.

Note : – All the School Heads are requested to disseminate the above information amongst all the students, teachers and stakeholders for their participation in this endeavour.

Language of Lectures: The Online course will be offered in English. The same course shall be offered in the Hindi language in the future.

Eligibility: Anyone who has passed class tenth or currently studying in the tenth standard can also enroll for this course.

Course Duration

This online course has 15 conceptual videos and the first video lecture shall be available upon

registration. Once the previous video is completed the next video will be available in a progressive

way. These videos shall be available for a period of 6 months from the date of registration.

Certifications

To receive a digital certifications candidates must:

a) Registration is free for accessing the lectures

b) Watch all 15 videos

c) Opt for the online assessment which consists of multiple choice questions (MCQs)

d) The online assessment is available only for 10 days after completing the last video

e) “Certificate of Participation” for all the registered students for free after completion of all the videos

f) “Certificate of Appreciation” for all the registered students who have taken the assessment AND scored less than 60%

g) “Certificate of Merit” for all the registered students who have taken the assessment AND scored more than 60%

Fee: Candidates can take the online assessment for Rs 100/- after completion of videos.
